    Results of a new national poll shows support of local police officers, according to an alliance of law enforcement officers. The United Coalition of Public Safety announced findings Wednesday, saying that 82 percent of those surveyed believe that their local officers are honest and trustworthy.

    El Paso police narcotics detective killed in Arizona traffic crash blamed on drunk driver

    An El Paso police narcotics detective and retired sergeant major in the Texas Army National Guard was killed in a weekend traffic crash in eastern Arizona that authorities blamed on a drunk driver. 51-year-old Richard Allbee died when his pickup truck was struck head-on by another pickup that crossed the center line on U.S. 70 near Bylas on Sunday evening.

    A detective with the El Paso Police Department was killed in a crash in Arizona on Sunday. Officials with El Paso police identified the detective as 51-year-old Richard Allbee. The two-vehicle crash happened on Sunday around 6:19 p.m. on U.S. 70 near Bylas, Arizona.

    National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is Running Out of Room for New Names

    The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is running out of room for new names. An average of 337 names are added to the memorial every year, and at this rate, there won't be enough room.  When the memorial was first dedicated in October 1991, it displayed the names of 12,561 officers who died in the line of duty through the end of 1990.

    Former El Paso police officer found guilty of raping woman he met on the job

    A former El Paso police officer was convicted Thursday afternoon of raping a woman nearly two years ago that he first met while on duty. The jury deliberated for just over four hours before delivering the guilty verdict against William Alexander. Alexander was arrested and charged with the sexual assault in May 2018.

    Name of El Paso County sheriff's deputy to be added at National Law Enforcement Memorial

    A deputy killed in the line of duty will have his name displayed on the National Law Enforcement Memorial. The Texas Ford Dealers donated $25,000 to Sheriff Richard Wiles and the Sheriff’s Office Foundation to show their support of local law enforcement on Monday. Deputy Peter Herrera died in the hospital March 24, 2019, following a shooting during a traffic stop in San Elizario.

    All EPMPOA members are invited to participate in the 10th Annual "Jail Break" Half Marathon and 5K Runs that will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Lee College in Baytown, Texas (outside of Houston).  The "Jail Break Run" is brought to you annually by the police charity - Project Blue.  The half-marathon was designed by runners for runners.

    The U.S. Border Patrol and other agencies gathered at the Abundant Living Faith Center Wednesday morning to say their final goodbyes to one of their own. A K-9, Bulder, was killed in the line of duty last month. The Border Patrol, CBP, El Paso police, El Paso Mayor Dee Margo and many other agencies came to pay their respects to Bulder Wednesday morning.

    The El Paso Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety are now accepting applications for the law enforcement citizens academy. The program is free and open to anyone 18-years of age and up, and the applications will be open until Jan.17. According to a release, the academy will begin on Feb. 4, and classes will meet from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, and 9 p.m. to 12 p.m.

    Record number of LEOs died by suicide in 2019

    A record number of current or former law enforcement officers died by suicide in 2019, according to Blue H.E.L.P., a nonprofit that works to reduce the stigma around mental health issues in law enforcement.  According to figures announced by Blue H.E.L.P. on Thursday, 228 current or former officers died by suicide, compared with 172 in 2018.

    Some El Paso area schools will receive decommissioned police vehicles from the El Paso Police Department. The cars will be used for law enforcement training programs and will offer students a chance to gain exposure to "real-world" scenarios. El Paso City Council District 7 Rep. Henry Rivera passed the item at City Council last month.

    The owners of the Elixir Lounge sponsored their second annual golf tournament in October.  Their first annual tournament  last year benefited Bob Miller Middle School and raised over $2000.  This year they wanted to benefit the HPOA Charitable Foundation!  It was a great time and a good day of golf.     An El Paso police officer was found not guilty of manslaughter Thursday afternoon in the deadly shooting of a Lower Valley man in the back in 2015. It was the second trial for Officer Mando Gomez; his first trial earlier this year ended in a mistrial after a prosecutor collapsed in court.
